Deciding on my nursery theme from the mountain of baby nursery ideas was one of my favorite parts of pregnancy. I couldn’t wait to shop for crib bedding, nursery wall art and accessories.
So, whether you are looking for baby nursery ideas for a boy, girl or gender neutral, I’ve got you covered. Here is the ultimate list of baby nursery ideas to give you inspiration to design your own nursery.
Adorable Baby Nursery Ideas for a Girl
I love how many options there are for a baby girl nursery. You have the classic pink themes and the traditional boy themes with a girlish vibe like dinosaurs and woodland. However, all these options can make it hard to choose the perfect one. Here are my favorite ones to help you decide.
Animal Nursery Ideas
Including animals in your nursery theme is a very popular nursery idea. There are so many to pick from and they are so adorable. You can include a lot of animals by choosing something like ocean, woodland or safari. Another idea is to just pick one animal like an owl, flamingo or an elephant.
Ocean Animals Nursery
If you like the idea of under the sea but don’t really want to go with mermaids, then take a look at this awesome ocean animal nursery. I would pair this with some cozy octopus and whale stuffed animals.
Woodland Nursery
A very popular nursery idea right now is Woodland. You can really go in a lot of directions with this theme, which is why I think it is so hot right now. I love this fox nursery for a girl. I also love how you can decorate with a teepee. If you like this theme and want more ideas, check out my 100 nursery ideas to create a Woodland Nursery.
Safari Nursery
While most safari nurseries are boy themed, this floral safari nursery is perfect for a baby girl. I love this set that has matching wall art and crib sheet.
Flamingo Nursery
Since pink is a popular choice color for nurseries, why not do a pink animal like a flamingo. Flamingos are awesome and my toddler’s favorite animal. She would have loved a flamingo nursery.
A Swan Nursery
Another animal nursery idea that is perfect for a girl is a swan. I really like this gold and pink Swan nursery idea, or you could also do a swan and ballerina nursery theme.
Elephant Nursery
Most of the elephant nurseries I see are geared toward boys or gender neutral. This one with flowers however is a gorgeous choice for a baby girl. I love the watercolor flowers and how adorable that elephant is.
Owl Nursery
For one of my babies, I went with an owl themed nursery. I love their big eyes. I think owls are very cute and I love the wall decal you can add for this theme. Another reason to pick owls is that there is a lot to chose from when shopping for owl nursery items.
A Bird Nursery
This one isn’t as mainstream but still a nursery idea worth considering. To find really great bird nursery items, you will want to go to Etsy, which is where I found this gorgeous bird nursery.
A Dinosaur Nursery
Traditionally a boy theme, there are now a good number of dinosaur nursery items you can buy for a girl. This one is great because you can get matching wall decals to go with the crib bedding set. I love the use of pink and purple in this set. If you like the idea of dinosaur nursery, check out my post on 100+ Dinosaur nursery ideas.
A Dinosaur Princess Nursery
If you want to go all girl but love dinosaurs, then you will want to check out this princess dinosaur. I am not sure what can possibly beat a dinosaur in a crown.
Classic Girl Nursery Ideas
When I think of a classic and timeless girl nursery, I think of pink. Here are my favorite pink themed nursery ideas for a baby girl.
Pink Nursery
If you don’t really want a theme besides the color pink, then check out this gorgeous bedding set. I love how elegant this room is without being over the top. You could pair it with artwork to either give it a vintage feel or a modern look.
Floral Nursery
I think I would pick this set just to be able to do giant flower decals on the wall. If you want pink and traditional, then consider a floral nursery. I love the chandelier in this nursery.
Heart Nursery
Another simple and classic nursery idea is to do a heart themed nursery. I love this pink and gold heart nursery idea. It is perfect for a baby girl.
Ballerina Nursery
Lastly, if you want to do a pink nursery, why not consider a ballerina nursery for your little dancer.
Magical Nursery Ideas
Who doesn’t love fairytales and magical creatures? There are so many possibilities here from unicorns and narwhals to fairies, mermaids and princesses.
Unicorn Nursery
Unicorns are very in right now and for good reason, they are awesome. This theme would transition well to a toddler room. You could broaden the theme by making it a unicorn and narwhal theme or a rainbow and unicorn theme.
Fairy Nursery
For a magical nursery, I love the idea of fairies. There are some really amazing wall decals like the one in this fairy nursery.
A Princess Nursery
Lastly, you could go with a princess nursery. Since most of the toddlers I know love dressing up as a princess, this would transition really well to a toddler bedroom. However, I found it hard to find options when shopping for a princess nursery even though I consider this nursery theme to be pretty popular.
A Rainbow Nursery
I really love the idea of a rainbow nursery for a baby with all the beautiful bright colors and cute sayings like “somewhere over the rainbow.” It is magical without having any magical creatures in it.
A Mermaid Nursery
Mermaids are a great baby nursery theme. You can add in starfishes, seashells, and ocean animals. It is also a great choice if you want a blue nursery for a baby girl.
Disney Nursery Ideas
For Disney fans, here are some great Disney Nursery ideas if you want to include your favorite Disney character into your nursery.
Minnie Mouse Nursery
You can’t discuss Disney without starting with Minnie Mouse. Minnie is a popular theme for babies and up. Honestly, you can find adult Minnie bedding. I love the bows on the wall and the soft pink used in this nursery.
The Little Mermaid Nursery
For those of you who are big fans of under the sea, here is an adorable Little Mermaid nursery for some good inspiration.
A Cinderella Nursery
There are a lot of Cinderella decals and artwork that would go wonderfully with the gorgeous crib bedding. I love the detailing on crib skirt and rail guard, it is fit for a princess.
Adventure Themed Nursery
If you want something that is less traditional, then consider adventure themed nursery ideas. These also make great gender neutral themes so I will cover some again in the gender neutral section below. Here, I will show you nurseries that are for a baby girl.
Hot Air Balloon Nursery
Doing a travel themed nursery is a newer idea and my favorite ones include hot air balloons. This beautiful nursery set has hot air balloons with teacups for the baskets decorated in flowers. It says “adventure awaits.”
Outer Space Nursery
I absolutely love the idea of doing an outer space nursery but could not find a good crib bedding set for a girl, which was pretty disappointing. If you find one, then share with me in the comments please! However, I did find some awesome artwork from Etsy of a girl astronaut.
You could do constellations on the crib bedding or do a stars and moon crib set along with a planet mobile.
A Nautical Nursery
Lastly, you could do a nautical theme in pink and dark blue with sailboats, anchors, and whales. This theme feels very Vineyard Vines to me.
Adorable baby nursery ideas for a boy
When looking for baby nursery ideas for a baby boy, you could go with an adventure theme, a transportation theme, an animal theme, or a Disney theme. These all have lots of options so here are my favorite ones.
Transportation Nursery Ideas
I would say doing a nursery around transportation such as cars, trains or planes is probably one of the top baby boy themes. Since it is so popular, there are some pretty awesome nurseries you will want to copy.
Vehicle Nursery
If you don’t want to pick just one type of transportation, then do one that includes them all. This theme is all about transportation vehicles from cars and trucks to boats and helicopters. I love the mix of color here with the blue.
Plane Nursery
You could go with a plane theme for your little pilot. It would be fun to add some cloud decals and a plane mobile.
Train Nursery
Trains are very popular among toddler boys so going with a train theme could last you a long time. If I had a boy and decided to do a train theme, I would want to build a track that hangs from the ceiling for an electric train to ride on like they do in some stores.
Race Car Nursery
If you want to do a car theme, then you could do a race car theme like in this nursery. I love how this nursery is in all blue.
Vintage Car Nursery
Another car nursery idea is to do a vintage car theme like this white, blue, green and grey nursery.
Ship Nursery
This beautiful quilt shows just how well a ship theme could work. I love how modern this nursery looks with the dark blue and grey.
Sailboat Nursery
Another awesome dark blue and grey choice would be this nursery that is all about sailboats. That artwork really brings the theme together.
Adventure Themed Nursery Ideas
If you want to focus on adventure, then you could go with anything from forests and mountains to the stars and moons.
Mountains Nursery
This green, blue and grey nursery is a perfect mix of nature and adventure. I love the mountains and hot air balloons.
Travel Nursery
Another awesome adventure nursery idea is to do multiple ways to travel the world. While this could be a transportation themed nursery, I feel it gives off a sense of adventure with elephants traveling in hot air balloons, trains, and planes. The colors used in this set are so soft.
Hot Air Balloon Nursery
Or, you could focus on the sky. This set is all about clouds, stars, and hot air balloons. I would definitely be buying the stuffed star toy.
Stars and Moon Nursery
While this is a great theme for a gender-neutral nursery, I love this set for a little boy. I like how they tied in a baby bear sleeping on the moon, so cute.
Forest Nursery
You could do a forest theme like this nursery set. I love how beautiful and serene the trees are while still giving a sense of adventure.
Camping Nursery
If you liked the idea of a forest nursery but wanted something more active, then this camping nursery bedding set might be for you. You could pair this with some awesome wall decals and a teepee in the corner.
Nautical Nursery
If you wanted to go with a nautical theme but didn’t want to do ocean animals or boats, then consider this sailor themed nursery. I love the crispness of this design with the white and dark blue.
Outer Space Nursery
An outer space nursery filled with planets and rockets is a perfect adventure nursery. There are a lot of great items in this theme so you will have plenty to pick from when shopping.
Sports Nursery
Lastly, you could do a sports nursery. You could go for a type of sport like basketball, baseball, or a general sports theme to include multiple sports. Another idea is to find a bedding set for your favorite team and make that your theme.
Disney Nursery Ideas
If you love Disney, then you are in luck because there are a lot of great Disney nurseries out there for boys.
Mickey Mouse Nursery
To start, you can go with a classic Mickey Mouse nursery. While this one is all about red since that is the color of Mickey’s shorts, you can also find some great Mickey Mouse options in a blue theme as well.
Lion King Nursery
I love the Lion King mainly because it has an awesome soundtrack. Since it is full of safari animals, it makes a great baby nursery theme. Look at how cute this nursery set is.
Winnie the Pooh Nursery
You can not go wrong with a Winnie the Pooh nursery. The animals are adorable and there are so many great quotes for your nursery such as “As soon as I saw you I knew an adventure was going to happen” and “the most important thing is, even when we’re apart… I’ll always be with you…”
Finding Nemo Nursery
Finding Nemo is a cute little movie and makes for an even cuter nursery theme.
Monsters Inc Nursery
I really enjoyed watching Monsters Inc and could see how well it would work for a boy nursery.
Snoopy Nursery
While Snoopy isn’t Disney, if you love the character, here is an adorable boy nursery that is all about Snoopy.
Animal Themed Nursery Ideas
Here you could go with anything from woodland to dinosaurs. You can do a larger theme or focus on one single animal. Here are my favorites.
Woodland Nursery
Just as popular for girls as for boys since it is so versatile, this woodland nursery is all about cute animals. To get more inspiration, check out my Woodland Nursery post with over 100 ideas.
Safari Nursery
A safari nursery is also very hot right now giving you plenty of options to choose from. I love this nursery from Etsy since the animals are so unique.
Jungle Nursery
Similar to the safari and woodland themes, you could also go with a jungle theme. I like the modern look of this grey and blue set.
Ocean Animal Nursery
An ocean nursery is a great choice if you want to do lots of blues. I also love the octopus fish mobile and the school of fish decal on the wall.
Bear Nursery
If you want to do a single animal, then search for bear nurseries. You could pair some pretty cute teddy bears with this bear crib set. I love the Aztec detailing on this set.
Fox Nursery
While this nursery is a woodland nursery, I feel the use of colors here makes it all about foxes. Foxes are a very cute baby nursery idea and you can find lots of options too.
Monkey Nursery
I love the ideas of a monkey nursery mainly because of the little song “no more monkeys jumping on the bed”. Plus monkeys are full of energy and love to climb, which will be your baby very soon.
Elephant Nursery
Elephants are a classic nursery animal and really work for girls or boys. I love this set because the elephant is very beautiful. It is simple yet beautiful choice for a nursery.
Dinosaur Nursery
While they might not be around anymore, dinosaurs are an excellent nursery choice for boys. Additionally, there is so much to choose from as you can see from my dinosaur nursery post. You can really pick any type of design and color choice you want because there are so many options.
Gender Neutral Baby Nursery Ideas
Today a lot of people are choosing to go with a gender neutral nursery to be able to reuse it for multiple kids or because they don’t want to find the gender out until birth.
No matter your reasons for wanting a gender neutral nursery, the same problem exists which is that it can be challenging to find good nursery ideas. So here are my favorite gender neutral baby nursery ideas.
Moon and Stars Nursery
A beautiful nursery theme that just screams baby is a moon and star nursery. I love the wall decal that says “twinkle twinkle little star” along with the constellation blanket and the “love you to the moon and back” pillow.
Botanical Nursery
A very modern looking nursery choice is to go with a botanical or greenery nursery. You could add some plants to the room along with this beautiful crib bedding set and wall art.
Winnie the Pooh Nursery
I honestly would pick Winnie the Pooh just for the quotes I could put in the nursery such as “any day spent with you is my favorite day,” “sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart” and “you’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.”
Here is another adorable Winnie the Pooh Nursery that is in yellow and would work wonderfully for a boy or a girl.
Farm Nursery
Farm animals are a big hit with little ones. This cute set would look adorable and really is very gender neutral. You could get wooden farm animals and a barn for decor on a shelf to be used later as a toy.
Woodland Nursery
Woodland nurseries are all the rage and actually work really well for a gender neutral nursery. While you can find a lot of good choices, I practically love this set because the animals are so beautiful and to me this set is truly not girl or boy.
Jungle Nursery
While you can find lots of jungle nurseries, I found it hard to find one that felt truly gender neutral. Since this one really only has yellow, I felt like it did the trick. I also like the modern feel of this one and the sloth stuffed animal hanging from the dresser.
Adventure Nursery
Adventure is a great gender neutral nursery choice because it is not only very popular right now but you can find a lot of gender neutral choices. Here is a hot air balloon crib set that stays very neutral in color choice. You could probably make half of the choices in the boy adventure nursery section gender neutral.
Alphabet Nursery
I like the idea of an ABC nursery because it is so open ended. You can really include anything you want in it. Also since ABCs are a big deal to toddlers, you will be able to find some awesome artwork.
Harry Potter Nursery
Harry Potter was one of my favorite books growing up and if you want a magical nursery, then Harry Potter makes an excellent choice. It is all about wands, owls, castles, and wizard hats.
The Hungry Caterpillar Nursery
I love the idea of using a kid book for a nursery theme and The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is a great one. It is full of color and a classic first book favorite. I see it also used as a first birthday theme a lot.
Dr. Seuss Nursery
Dr. Seuss was one of my favorite books growing up. I love the amazing characters in these books like Sam I am, The Lorax, Horton, and Cat in the Hat. I feel this would be a great gender neutral choice that would work well for a toddler room as well.
Dr. Seuss Travel Nursery
If you want a Dr. Seuss Nursery but also want adventure, then this nursery is for you. A whole nursery theme on the book “Oh! The places you’ll go!” I love the globe as decoration. You can pick your decoration to make this theme stay gender neutral or be more girl or boy.
Dr. Seuss ABC Nursery
Lastly, you could go with the ABCs. There is an awesome Dr. Seuss ABC board book that this crib set is based on. I love the bold colors and the awesome Dr. Suess drawings in this one.
Peter Rabbit Nursery
Another great book that would make a cute nursery is Peter Rabbit. Here is an adorable baby blanket that says “even the smallest one can change the world.”
Peter Pan Nursery
My friend recently did a Peter Pan nursery and I loved the idea. I forgot how many awesome quotes that you could use in your nursery like “second start to the right and straight on till morning” or “Little boys should never be sent to bed. They always wake up a day older” or “isn’t it amazing what clever girls can do?” or “never grow up”.
Dinosaur Nursery
Lastly, you can go with a dinosaur nursery theme. Most crib bedding sets in this theme are really geared toward girl or boy but I think you could make a few work by what artwork you pick like they did in this nursery.
Baby Nursery Ideas to Inspire You
No matter what you decide on for your baby’s nursery, it will be perfect because it will soon enough have your beautiful baby in it. Hopefully by giving you some inspiration on different nursery themes to choose from, you have a better sense of what you like.
