One of my favorite moments in my second pregnancy was getting to tell our first that she was going to be a big sister. We were so excited to celebrate just how special her new title of big sister was.
We got her a shirt, a big sister gift and took pictures of her decked out in her big sister items with a sign. We used this as our pregnancy announcement to tell friends and family that we were expecting again. In addition to the fun pictures, this was the first step we took to preparing our child for the new baby and for her new role as big sister.

Holiday-Themed Big Sister Pregnancy Announcements
Depending on how far along you are in your pregnancy, doing a holiday themed announcement might make a lot of sense and be a lot of fun. Here are some of my favorite big sister pregnancy announcements that have a holiday theme.
Halloween Big Sister Pregnancy Announcements
I love this sign that says “Halloween to do list dress up trick or treat become a big sister” You could take a picture of it with your child in their Halloween costume.
You could also put your daughter in this adorable witch shirt that says “It’s not a trick. Just a treat. I’m going to be a big sister.”
A less spooky option is this pumpkin shirt that says “This little pumpkin is going to be a big sister!”
Thanksgiving Big Sister Pregnancy Announcement
If you plan to break the news over Thanksgiving, then show up with your kid in this cute shirt that says “this little turkey is going to be a big sister!”
Christmas Big Sister Pregnancy Announcement
Christmas is a great time to tell people you are expecting because like Thanksgiving, it is a time to be with and visit family. I put together a full post dedicated to Christmas pregnancy announcements but here are the ones for Big Sister.
One great idea is this Christmas List sign that says “Dear Santa, This year I would like a tea party set, a baby doll, to become a big sister.”
If you want a shirt, then check out these by Sprinkles and Jam. This one says “Merry Christmas to me a Big sister to be.”
Another great one is “Oh deer! I’m going to be a big sister.”
Even if you have already announced your pregnancy, a great gift for the big sister to be is an ornament. This silver one is a classic and says “promoted to big sister”.
Another great promoted to big sister ornament is this one with beautiful flowers and two bunnies hugging.
Lastly, this ornament is so cute. It is of a big sister holding the baby. I love the pig tails.
Big Sister Pregnancy Announcement Outfits
Big sister outfits, especially big sister shirts, are a classic. Dressing up your first in one of these shirts is such a cute way to say you are expecting another little one. Also, a cool new shirt or outfit will also be much more impactful of a gift than just a card to most kids.
Big Sister Outfits with Tutus
My daughter is a huge fan of everything sparkly, pink and girly so this outfit would be a big hit in our house. I also love that it says “promoted to Big Sister” with the month and year so in a photo, the shirt also serves as a pregnancy announcement all by itself.
Here is a similar outfit but in blue that says, “I’m so cute my parents are having another”.
Big Sister Pregnancy Announcement Shirts
Another great pregnancy announcement shirt for a big sister is one that says “I have a secret” on the front and on the back says “I’m going to be a big sister”. Take a picture of your child from the front for the front of the card and from the back with them looking over their should at you for the back of the card.
Here is the same awesome shirt ideas but Frozen themed. If you know you are going to have another girl, then this one is especially perfect.

I just really love the design of this shirt. I love the colors and the little girl on it.
For those of you who are fans of Friends, this is your shirt. You can get this one shirt that says, “The one where I become a Big Sister.” They make a lot of variations of this shirt. I love them as pregnancy announcements for husband such as “The one where I become a Dad” or “The one where I become a Dad again”. Get one for each family member and it could be an awesome family photo.
Sometimes simple and classic is the best. I really love the big cursive letters on this one with a simple heart after it. I could see this working for almost any age.
This shirt also has a simple design and says “I’m going to be a big sister” and includes the month and year.
I love the design on this shirt and think it is great for an older big sister. I would even wear that shirt.
Another shirt that I think would work well for the older big sister. It is girly without being little kiddish.
If you know you are having another girl, then this shirt could be great for a pregnancy announcement. I think it could make for a fun announcement picture if you stage it well. You could also use this for a gender reveal card.
Matching Big Sister Little Sister Outfits
Even though baby has not arrived yet, consider getting a big sister little sister outfit. You can give the big sister her shirt now. For the pregnancy announcement, your child can wear her shirt and hold the baby onesie that matches. When baby arrives, you can take some great sister shots at the hospital or at home of them wearing their matching outfits.
Since unicorns are awesome and my daughter loves them, I had to include this matching shirt and onesie pair, which is super cute.
If you wanted full outfits, these are beautiful. I love the flowers and the colors.
Another great option for matching outfits is this one. I love the fact it comes with the matching headbands.
Lastly, here is another option that I couldn’t resist including because the rainbows are cute.
Big Sister Pregnancy Announcement Signs
It can be really fun to pair a big sister gift like a shirt with a sign. You can get a digital file that you print to include in a picture. Other signs are completely digital, they are meant to be added to the picture after the fact. Here are my favorite ones but if you can’t find one that works for you, try buying a letterboard and make your own.
Here is a classic chalkboard that says “I’m being promoted to big sister”.
If you want more color, then check out this one that also says “I’m being promoted to big sister.” I love the flags and polka dots.
I really like the saying on this one. It says “I made a wish and it came true… Mommy’s due with Baby #2.”
If you have a toddler, then this sign would be fun. It says “Isabella’s to do list enter the world, steal hearts, learn to crawl, learn to walk, start talking and become a big sister!”
If you don’t want a traditional sign, then consider balloons that spell out big sister. They are bound to be a hit with any kid and make for a cute picture background.

A card can be a great way to break the news to an older child, especially if there is also a gift with the card. Here are my favorite cards because they are so unique and fun.
While this isn’t a traditional card, it is such a cute idea. It is an egg you crack that has a message in it. I know my daughter would be all about this egg with a crown and heart on it.
If you have a child who loves puzzles, then grab this cute puzzle that says “Adelyn, you are going to be a big sister.” There are also some puzzles that have a riddle that could be fun for an older child that I included in my post about pregnancy announcements ideas for grandparents.
Who doesn’t love a scratch off? This unicorn and rainbow themed one says “Claire We have something to tell you…. You are going to be a big sister!”
Lastly, here is a traditional yet beautiful card decorated with flowers that says “only the best daughters get promoted to big sisters.”
Big Sister Pregnancy Announcement Accessories
In addition to big sister shirts, there are some creative ideas out there for other big sister outfits. There are also a ton of fantastic big sister accessories like bags, jewelry, and hats that you could get.
My favorite big sister outfit is this superhero costume that has a cape and mask. The cape says Super Big Sister. You could get some great pictures for a pregnancy announcement and I could see my little playing dress up in this for a long time.
Another awesome dress up idea is this big sister apron. My kids love to wear aprons when they help me in the kitchen and when they play in their pretend kitchen. In the pregnancy announcement picture, you could put baby items in the pockets. You can play up their role as big sister helper. When baby is born, they would love having jobs like being in charge of getting certain things for baby or carrying around certain baby items.
When you tell your child that they are going to be a big sister, give them this badge. You can tell them they get to wear it to the hospital when the baby is born.
Big Sister Jewelry for Pregnancy Announcement
Another awesome pregnancy announcement gift idea for the big sister-to-be is jewelry.
I love this rainbow bracelet that says big sister on the heart.
If you want to include your child’s name, then this bracelet is a similar style.
This necklace is the perfect design for an older big sister. I love the simplicity of the design.
Another cute option is this star wishing bracelet. It says “Make a wish as you tie on your bracelet. Once tied, it’s tradition to keep it on your wrist. When the bracelet falls away, it is believed your wish will come true!”
Big Sister Bags
Bags are a great gift. You can use them as a special hospital bag that your child can pack when they come to visit you at the hospital. They also make great library book bags.
Here is a cute bag with a unicorn and fun colors that says “Big sister” and their name.
I couldn’t resist this one because I absolutely love the big bow since my daughter loves wearing one in her hair every day.

Big Sister Pregnancy Announcement Gifts
One of the best ways to ensure the news goes well is to get your child a big sister gift. This is very popular to do at the hospital, where you have a gift from the new baby. You can also get them a gift when you tell them you’re expecting too.
Big Sister Books
My absolutely favorite gift especially for a young big sister is this book called “The Super Incredible Big Sister.” It comes with a Big Sister Medal and the book is personalized with your child’s name.
Another book about becoming an older sibling that is worth checking out is this one, which can also be personalized.
Big Sister Stuffed Animal or Lovey
I absolutely love how cute this elephant is and that it can be personalized to say both their name and also big sister.
If you don’t want an elephant, then check out this Etsy shop that can personalize the tummies of a lot of different stuffed animals.
Another idea is to get both a big and little sister stuffed unicorns. You could give both to the big sister so she can play with them. She can gift the little one to her baby sister when she is born. You could also save this and give the big sister one to your child when they came to the hospital as a gift from baby.
Big Sister Gift Boxes
Another great gift idea to tell your child they are going to be a big sister is a gift box. This one is for an older sister that has chocolates a cute heart ornament and a little mermaid purse.
This gift box would be a winner for any little girl since it is filled with stickers and craft activities.
Big Sister Activity Ideas
A big focus for me was to not only get them excited but also to help the transition go well. I love these activity boxes. This box contains 30 stay at home activities. You could save this for when baby comes or also start doing them now to see what type of activities will work well for when you need your older kid to be busy while you are busy with baby.
